SP Daryl Wohlers Undergoes Tommy John Surgery

In his most recent start, Pittsburgh Pilots SP Daryl Wohlers was removed from the game after four innings due to an injury that has resulted in Tommy John surgery.  At 36, the 14-year veteran is facing his second major arm injury.  He is expected to be ready by Opening Day in season 23.

Since being acquired by the Pilots at the season 19 trade deadline, he's been a revelation and an unlikely ace.  In parts of four seasons as a Pilot, Wohlers went 47-17 with a 1.19 WHIP and 3.32 ERA. In season 21, he made his third All Star appearance and finished in the top 5 of Cy Young voting.

For his career, Wohlers has compiled a 172-127 record with 2,211 strikeouts and a 3.69 ERA.  His previous two All Star appearances came with the Rochester Red Wings, though he has also pitched for the Las Vegas Desert Dogs franchise and the Richmond Brewers.
